Pitch Decks from an Investor’s Perspective
At Sky Valley Advisors, we are often approached by early-stage biotech founders on what investors look for in pitch decks.
Here’s a framework we often recommend as a starting point that covers both scientific credibility and commercial potential.
Company Overview – summarize indication, modality, stage, differentiation in a clear and concise way. Answer this question: Who are you and what problem are you solving?
The Problem – define the clinical or scientific unmet need, backed by credible data. Use data to show scale and urgency.
Your Solution – explain your therapeutic, platform, or diagnostic tech in language digestible to investors.
Science & Validation – summarize the evidence - preclinical/clinical data, IP position, and peer-reviewed research, if available.
Market Opportunity – TAM/SAM/SOM, current standards of care, and market dynamics. Highlight pricing, reimbursement potential, patient access, if applicable.
Business Model – explain clearly how you will make money (eventually)? Licensing, partnerships, commercialization?
Go-to-Market & Regulatory Path – summarize your clinical trial plans, regulatory strategy, timelines.
Pipeline & Milestones – outline your R&D pipeline and upcoming value inflection points.
Team – highlight scientific, clinical, and commercial experience.
Financials & Ask – how much capital you are raising, use of proceeds (tie this to value-creating milestones), and the expected runway or milestone. Include past funding rounds, burn rate, and future funding needs.
Investors are generally looking for a strong scientific rationale and need; a credible business plan on how you will commercialize your idea; and a capable team to execute.
Typical presentations are 10-15 slides. Feel free to include an appendix for: scientific figures, IP status, competitor tables, and clinical trial design.
The biotech capital landscape is still highly selective—but companies with clear narratives, validated science, and credible plans are raising capital successfully.
At Sky Valley Advisors, we work closely with founders to refine investor decks, shape the fundraising strategy, and position companies for long-term success.
